THE SCIENCE OF HER
THE SCIENCE OF HER by PRATYUSH KUMAR is a heartfelt and distinctive first-love story that brings together the precision of science and the uncertainty of human emotion.
The novel follows Pratyush, a third-year Mechanical Engineering student at IIT Bombay whose world revolves around equations, experiments, and logical thinking. His perspective changes when he meets Nandita, a Physics student, during an unexpected encounter near Powai Lake.
What begins as a simple conversation gradually develops into a meaningful connection. Their relationship grows through small moments—conversations, shared experiences, visits, observations, and memories that quietly become significant.
WHEN LOGIC MEETS LOVE
Pratyush approaches life with the mindset of a researcher, but love refuses to follow the rules of an experiment. When circumstances and family expectations lead to an unexpected separation, he is left facing questions that cannot be answered through logic alone.
The emotional impact of those unanswered questions becomes central to the story. Years later, an unexpected moment at a conference in Zürich brings Nandita’s name back into Pratyush’s world, reopening memories that were never completely resolved.
A STORY OF FIRST LOVE AND MEMORY
The novel explores the lasting influence of first love, the uncertainty of timing, the weight of family expectations, and the emotional traces people leave behind.
Its strength lies in the contrast between Pratyush’s scientific way of thinking and the deeply unpredictable nature of relationships. The story suggests that some experiences cannot be measured, explained, or neatly concluded.
A UNIQUE BLEND OF SCIENCE AND EMOTION
THE SCIENCE OF HER stands apart through its combination of scientific imagery and emotional storytelling. Ideas from engineering, physics, research, and observation become part of a larger narrative about connection and loss.
The result is a story that feels personal while maintaining an intellectually distinctive perspective.

He is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Mathematics at ETH Zürich, where his work focuses on computational fluid dynamics and machine learning for physical systems.
THE SCIENCE OF HER is his debut book, transforming a deeply personal experience into a literary exploration of love, timing, memory, and the limits of objectivity.
EDITORIAL VERDICT
THE SCIENCE OF HER is a thoughtful and emotionally engaging debut that combines scientific precision with the unpredictable nature of first love.
PRATYUSH KUMAR creates a story about the memories that remain, the questions that never receive simple answers, and the experiences that cannot be reduced to equations.
A compelling read for anyone who believes that some of life’s most important experiences are impossible to calculate—but impossible to forget.
